Yoga Nidra & Sound Healing + Movement Meditation with Geeti & Gyan
Thursdays 6 - 8.45pm at Shanti Space, Brookvale
This is for booking 2 back-to-back classes together: Yoga Nidra & Sound Healing (6 -7pm) + Movement Meditation (7.15 - 8.45pm). The classes are designed to work synergistically with each other. (The classes can also be booked separately.)
The Yoga Nidra & Sound Healing gives you an opportunity to deeply restore & heal, harmonise body, mind & prana, uplift the heart, & reconnect to your true nature.
There is a 15 minutes break after this session for some quiet time to further integrate & be with yourself. From this space of deep relaxation & integration, it's so beneficial, magical & transformative to then consciously move the body.
The Movement Meditation session gives you an opportunity through guided movement (Kirhuyo) & free form dance (Soul Motion) to cultivate awareness, awaken energy, inspire creativity, explore, heal & find harmony with how we connect & move through the world.
The movement meditation is also a powerful way of moving any energies through your being that surface during the yoga nidra & sound healing, which are ready to be released, processed & healed.
Increasingly, scientific studies are showing that there are immense benefits when meditative stillness & movement are practiced in combination.
ABOUT THE YOGA NIDRA & SOUND HEALING
It’s a meditation practice which induces deep physical, mental & emotional relaxation & supports positive transformation of the entire personality.
Geeti & Gyan incorporate sound healing, mantra & sacred music into the practice of Yoga Nidra for a deeply soothing, healing & uplifting experience.
In the Yoga Nidra & Sound Healing session, you will learn or experience how to:
- deeply and systematically relax your body
- set potent intentions for self-transformation
- release pain & trauma & heal yourself
- activate & balance your pranic field & your chakra system
- rest in the peace, joy & love of your true nature
- open your heart to yourself & all beings
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT MEDITATION
Geeti draws upon more than 35 years of movement meditation experience, weaving together practices and philosophy from the movement arts of Japan (Kiryuho), her training as a Soul Motion conscious dance facilitator and her studies in sound healing and naada yoga.
The practices include both structured (Kiryuho) and free form movement (Soul Motion conscious dance) and sessions are designed to help cultivate ease and confidence in moving alone as well as with others, moving beyond self consciousness and fear into relaxation, trust and flow.
MORE ABOUT THE YOGA NIDRA & SOUND HEALING CLASS
In Yoga Nidra, a state of relaxation is reached by turning inwards (pratyahara), away from outer experiences. When we can withdraw our consciousness from external awareness, without sleeping, it becomes very powerful and can be applied in many ways – for example, to relax fully, to develop memory, awaken intuition and creativity, and transform one’s nature.
Studies have shown that Yoga Nidra can bring the mind from a highly active beta state into a more relaxed, calming alpha state and potentially into a theta state, where emotional integration & release happen.
With practice, Yoga Nidra can take you deeper still, into delta, the most restorative state, when organs regenerate & cortisol is removed, and even further to a brain wave state below delta, where the brain is thoughtless & the most profound peace & self connection is experienced. (See Yoga Journal, ‘How Yoga Nidra Can Help You Get More Sleep’ for more information.)
What’s more, the practice is so simple – all you have to do is lie down, listen to the guiding instructions, and feel. It is a self-empowering practice rather than a hypnotherapy.
Gyan is a passionate student, teacher & advocate of Yoga Nidra: 'It has been a Godsend, my foundation & bedrock, my means of healing & connection to source & bliss… That’s why I’ve practiced it each day now for ten years! I love it & the practice keeps getting richer & deeper.'
Sessions will be gently progressive, & students will learn how to systematically relax, rejuvenate & heal themselves.
WHO THE CLASS IS FOR
This class is for adults only (18 years and over). These sessions can comprise chakra visualizations, use mantras, and are an hour in duration, which can potentially bring up challenging thoughts, emotions and physiological responses to your psyche.
So SOME PRIOR EXPERIENCE of mindfulness training, meditation, sound healing and/or yoga nidra is highly recommended.
It’s very important to be grounded before leaving the space, and ideally have some quiet time to integrate afterwards.
Yoga Nidra has been found unsuitable for some mental illness, therefore it is not recommended if you are diagnosed with mental illness to attend these sessions. Rather, seek guidance in Yoga Nidra from a qualified yoga therapist.
If you are excessively introverted, or prone to depression or other symptoms of mental imbalance, this class may not be suitable – if you wish to join the class, please ring Gyan on 0408013341 first.
BUT WHAT IF I CAN’T HELP SLEEPING DURING THIS PRACTICE?!
If you sleep, you may miss many of the transformative benefits of this practice. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with falling asleep during the practice – in fact you will tend to have a deeper, more relaxed and refreshing sleep than usual!
You can also practice sitting in a chair if you prefer or to help avoid sleeping.
WHAT TO BRING
BRING YOUR OWN MAT, BLANKET AND CUSHIONS if you can. Or bring a covering to place over mats and cushions available at Shanti Space. Bolsters will be provided. An eye mask is recommended.
Your body temperature will drop during the practice, so please bring enough coverings to ensure you’ll be warm enough.
You’ll be lying down for over an hour, so please bring enough cushions and mats to ensure you’ll be comfortable enough.
